KC Active & Nutrition

At Kids Cottage Preschool physical activities are integrated into the indoor and outdoor program to create a foundation of movement and activity which will be carried with children throughout the rest of their lives. Increased movement and physical activity creates healthy habits and has numerous benefits for the child, helping improve confidence, self-esteem and developing healthier social, cognitive, and emotional skills. The children help in arranging challenging and stimulating indoor and outdoor physical activity that is of interest to them. Physical activity includes yoga, stretching, sports games and obstacle courses.

The relationship between nutrition, health and learning is undeniably strong and part of everyday interactions, routines and activities for the Kids Cottage preschool child. Children regularly participate in cooking experiences, using fresh produce from our garden, supporting their understanding of healthy eating and nutrition. Meal times are pleasant and unhurried, allowing educators to sit with small groups of children and have conversations about the nutritional benefits of the food they are eating.
