KC Language

Literacy has four pillars; language, writing, reading and comprehension. The Kids Cottage program utilises spontaneous and planned experiences to support children in practising these. Literacy is promoted through shared reading, language games and songs, exploring letters and sounds and providing resources for children to practise their writing. Kids Cottage Educators use children’s favourite books as investigations to enhance children’s literacy. For example, children predict what the book is about prior to being read and after the book is read provide a recap of what happened.

Children use pictures to create and write their own books and then speak about the stories they have created, exploring the use of language and different vocabulary. Children also create their own role-play of their stories. Kids Cottage Preschool uses the Reading Eggs program to support children in phonic and letter recognition.
